In the story "the Cactus" The main character Trysdale is sitting alone in his apartment thinking and talking to himself about the little green plant sitting in the window sill, the cactus. Wondering why it is there and what the meaning of it is. Trysdale then leaves and goes to a wedding for a girl he once dated and found one of his friends who was a captain; the man’s name was carruthers. Carruthers and trysdale then talked about the love of his life, who he left long ago and was now getting married. The captain talked to him for quite a while, asking all sorts of questions and wondering why he left her, and what happened to them during the relationship. Trysdale tries to explain the things he did and why he left her, but he doesn’t recall why he did. He then explains that he wasn’t sure if she still liked him and explained how she gave him the little cactus after the two of them separated. Trysdale did not know how to speak the native language of which the cactus came from so he never knew the meaning. So, he asked the captain what the meaning of the cactus was, and he said that it meant “come and take me” So, trysdale could have gotten his girl back, but he did not know the meaning of the cactus so he never knew that she wanted to be with him still, and as a result trysdale lost the love of his life and his lesson learned was that he should of looked into the name more when he received it.

The story i read was the haunted island and the allusion i found said "The loneliness made its self unpleasant. It seemed all though the darkness came up at once its allotting to the scariness of the dark." what the author meant by this was that it was really dark and scary at the island and it slowly creeped up on him as it made him feel uncomfortable with himself because it was so dark and spooky. obviously the loneliness cant make itself feel unpleasant, because loneliness doesn't have feelings.which makes it a solid allusion and helpee the story become more interesting.
The character in babes in the jungle i will be describing is one of the bosses in the story, Klein. Klein wore a nice suit and walked with a cane because he was a rather heavy man. clearly the man has lots of money and is very wealthy as he can afford all the expensive paintings he buys. he is really cranky and wants everything to go his way, no matter what it is. an example of this would be when the group of men were talking about how they are going to buy their new painting and sell it to make more money. while the other men were talking Klein smashes his cane into the ground and starts yelling and swearing at the others, and telling them how he wants it done. Klein then continues to go on and on about everything that he is upset with and continues to yell and cuss out the men in the room. in the end, Klein ends up getting his way and getting the new painting just the way he wanted.
The theme of the story "the huntsmen" is that bad things will happen if you're impaired by drugs/alcohol . during the story Yegor, a German huntsmen is walking back to his hut when he sees a woman with a pasty white face, who stopped him and asked if he remembered who she was, and he said he didn't want to while she got very upset. then she began to ask him why he wont stay with her and that they're married and should be together. Yegor then explains to her that he was drunk and made a bad decision and that he doesn't want to be with her at all and just wants to be alone. Then he proceeded to tell her that he doesn't want to hit her again and abuse her like before when they were staying together (which he did when we was drunk). Yegor then walks away from her as she sobs her eyes out and never looks back as he leaves his wife yet again.
The short story "the cripple" starts off with a man sitting in a train all by himself when a man with no feet and wooden pegs comes in and sits next to him. the two men then look at each other briefly as they think they know one another. after a brief silence the man with the pegs says that starring at each other isn't going to help them figure out who they are so they strike a conversation. come to find out the two men were in war together many years ago and the man with the pegs was the captain. the two men then talk some more about the war and how their lives have been 12 years or so after wards. The captain ended up losing his wife after he lost his legs because she didn't want her to suffer and have to sacrifice because of his disabilities. The train then stops and the man gets out, and walks away with his ex wife and her new husband and their kids, holding the little girl and boys hands while they walk away.
The huntsmen- sounds exhilarating
The hound- I like dogsThe cripple- Sound interesting The cactus- cactus's are interesting The haunted island- sounds spooky A Baby Tramp- sounds odd but interesting At sea- the ocean relaxes me Babes in the jungle- Babes are sweet The use of force- sounds intense To build a fire- i don't know how to make a fire Smoking is clearly bad for you, whether it is electronic cigarette or not. But, it is said that these are better for you because they don't release smoke, instead it gives of a vapor type gas. They can contain nicotine, carcinogens, and other harmful substances. "The increased use of e-cigarettes by teens is deeply troubling," Dr. Tom Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said in a statement. Smoking is responsible for 440,000 deaths per year, and though not all of these could be caused by the new product, the e-cigarettes, a decent amount was. They are also targeting the younger market of kids, making flavors like chocolate and bubble gum, which could be easily tied to kids. It may also be easier for kids to keep them a secret as they may not give off a strong smell like regular cigarettes, and also the parents could think it is a pen or something, as it doesn't really look like a cigarette. This could cause kids to try them at a younger age and get kids hooked them at a younger age which would cause more deaths in the future. in the article it said that 1.8% of 6-8 graders and 2.8% of grades 9-12 are using e-cigarettes, and this number is rising as we speak as more flavors and changes come out which will lead to more addictions and deaths. In conclusion, no cigarette should be smoked, and no e-cigarettes should be smoked as well, seeing how they both are causing harm to both young and old people, and both have cancer causing agents.
I still believe people are not good after the witch hunt. I believe this because the girls in the movie and ales o the judge people all lied to get people killed for no reason. Also, Abigail did it so she could kill john proctors wife, goody proctor, just so she could be with him instead of her, and if you ask me that is very selfish and not very nice of her to do. But, john proctor killed himself in the end after being accused by Mary that he in fact, was also a witch. So, it kind of back fired on her part and her plan to get back with john failed. Also, the judges in court were very dumb to believe the people were actually witches and not notice the females that were accusing the different men and women of witch craft were lying the whole time. There were a lot of times throughout the movie where the judges could have realized that this was all a big lie. But, they didn't believe the select few that were denying the witch craft accusations and gave good reasoning behind it and the judges still don't see the truth.
Tragedies are very bad things, but are some of these things not preventable, or are they all preventable? Tragedies happen all the time, all over the place, some worse than others. But I believe all of these tragedies can be prevented. For example, if the people in charge of doing the underwater oil thing in Mexico would have read the plans correctly and put it together properly, there wouldn't have been millions and millions of oil spilt into the ocean, affecting everything from human beings to the tiniest fish in the sea. Seeing how all of the fishermen in the Louisiana area couldn’t fish anymore and all of the aquatic animal life that died. Also, with the United States and other countries such as Iraq or Afghanistan and the attacks going on between the two, they could easily be stopped if the two governments would sit down and talk to each other instead of killing innocent people and causing unnecessary damage. Or even the attacks on the twin towers which caused mourning and economical issues in the United States. Overall I believe that all tragedies could be treated and stopped before anything major would and or could happen. Which in turn would be best for everyone no matter what country they live in or area they live in?
