Gothic romance has mysteries, often involving the supernatural and heavily tinged with horror, and they were usually set against dark backgrounds of medieval ruins and haunted castles. The following are the "5 I's of Romanticism." imagination,intuition,idealism,inspiration,&individuality.Imaginations the faculty of imagining, or of forming mental images or concepts of what is not actually present to the senses. Intuition is the direct perception of truth, fact, etc., Independent of any reasoning process; immediate apprehension. The 3rd I, Idealism is the cherishing or pursuit of high or noble principles, purposes, goals, etc. The last I is individuality, which is the particular character, or aggregate qualities, that distinguish one person or thing from others; sole and personal nature.
